As the Russia-Ukraine War worsens, more evidence is emerging about how weapons sent to the country are still making their way into the hands of Neo-Nazi units such as the Azov Battalion.

The Azov Battalion are self-described socialist ultra-right Ukrainian nationalists who are aligned with the Social-National Assembly and have adopted many symbols and slogans that are associated with Neo-Naziism.

On April 1, 2022, Fox News reporter Bret Baier interviewed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and asked him about the Azov Battalion units and the reported atrocities they were committing:
Zelenskyy responded:
“So, Azov was one of those many battalions. They are what they are. They were defending our country. And later, I want to explain to you, everything from all the components of those volunteer battalion later were incorporated into the military of Ukraine. Those Azov fighters are no longer self-established group; they are a component of the Ukrainian military.”
And though Zelenskyy said that some members of those forces were tried for their actions, it remains stunning to hear that members of these units are still welcome in the ranks of the official Ukrainian military.
Stating “They are what they are,” attests to the president’s indifference of having members of these hateful groups who revere Nazi values.
Western countries such as Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom who fought in WWII and saw lives lost in the millions to rid the world of such a hateful and destructive regime are now turning a blind eye to actual forces in the Ukrainian military who espouse these values – along with their president who has embraced them into his own military.
For unknown and unconfirmed reasons, Fox News deleted this portion of the interview.
The current version of the full-length interview still figures on the news outlet’s YouTube channel, but is void of the incriminating portion.
The deleted portions can also be viewed on other outlets such as Rumble:

Continued Western Support to the Ukraine
Despite little or next to no acknowledgement on the part of Western countries, most of which are NATO-aligned members, regarding the Ukrainian military employing Neo-Nazi units such as Azov and Centuria, support – including providing training these units – continues to flow in the billions of dollars to the country that is plagued with systemic corruption.
In a January 3rd, 2023 report by Anna Fleck from Statista, well over $100 billion has been funneled to the war-torn country with no end in sight:
“The United States pledged $50.9 billion in military, financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine between the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022 and November 20. Data from the Ukraine Support Tracker shows that, as a single country, the U.S. has provided by far the most aid to Ukraine, followed by EU institutions ($37.2 billion), the UK ($7.5 billion), Germany ($5.8 billion) and Canada ($5.1 billion).”
There is the added concern that a lot of the military aid, mostly in the form of weapons, is making its way into the Ukraine, with large portions being resold for profit.
As per The Libertarian Institute article, “American weapons provided to Ukraine have been captured by Russia on the battlefield, a top Department of Defense official told Congress on Tuesday.”
And, the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl claimed Moscow was capturing American weapons and selling them on the black market:
“Our assessment is if some of these systems have been diverted it’s by Russians who have captured things on the battlefield, which always happens.”

As per additional reporting from ZeroHedge, the Washington Post reported Ukraine is infamous for black market weapon sales and the U.S. Government is well aware of the country’s challenge with weapons proliferation.
They add, “Kahl was confronted by Congressman Matt Gaetz over the weapons ending up in the hands of neo-Nazis,” to which Kahl dismissed the claims as “Beijing’s propaganda.”
Interestingly, Gaetz also asked Dr. Kahl whether there were currently any CIA units in the Ukraine, referring to the infamous spy unit, the Central Intelligence Agency, to which the Under Secretary of Defense would not confirm or deny.
The ZeroHedge report added the following on the matter [original emphasis added]:
“In July, the Stimson Center – an American organization – warned US arms could flow to “avowed neo-Nazis.” “[The Azov Battalion’s] role in key Ukrainian theatres creates risks that arms could be diverted to Azov troops in contravention of US law,” the report said.”
It remains to be seen whether western mainstream media outlets will choose to report on these discommoding facts, or continue to ignore them altogether.
Moreover, it also remains to be seen whether support from Western countries will continue unabated despite such damning evidence coming to light.

Thank you for this brief and very clear piece.
Heads up: You might want to fix "[countries] who fought in WWII lives lost in the millions to rid the world of [...]" and "including providing raining these units"
Thank you DF. Excellent article. Bit troubled by the chat below with what is either nit picking or just being pedantic. The clue being in the how big is yours compared to mine bit. Childlike willy waving!
