In this highly revealing podcast, we explore the astounding findings that investigative freelance journalist Bill Rice Jr. has uncovered surrounding curious Substack metrics for content creators.
Any advice on how to pressure Substack owners to stop screwing with Substack? Any way to set up alternatives for payment to substack authors?
Going local is great but how do we even find the relevant people to read? Substack is getting inundated with crap posts. It's clogging up the space. We can't all doom scroll forever.
As a lot of people know by now, in the past few months, some (or all) of of the banned Youtube channels were opened up again. Richie From Boston (RFB II) is one of them - he's posting to his channel again.
Important conversation to be had, especially at this time.
Not sure though that various 'hacks' around the Substack algo and various shadow bans is a viable long term approach.
There is also the matter of various measures around the world to restrict people from accessing centralised platforms with Australia's age verification requirements kicking in NEXT MONTH being a primary example.
Here is the approach I am taking, it may not be feasible for everyone but I am fairly confident it will do the job, at least for now.
Great post you have there Michael. I will take the time to read it all carefully. I also think our days are numbered on this platform with regards to age verification (hence why I put it in the possible discussion questions at the end of my post). May God help us.
Here are some up-to-the-minute metric changes at my (“national”) Substack newsletter:
- In the past 30 days, I’ve lost 54 total subscribers, going from 7,898 to 7,844 this afternoon.
- I’ve posted 10 original article in the past 30 days, so I’m losing, on average, 5.4 subscribers with every new story I post. As noted in my interview, for the first year or so of my Substack, I was averaging more than 14 new subscribers with every new article I posted.
- In the last 30 days, I’ve also lost five (net) paid subscribers, going from 270 to 265. I peaked at 311 paid subscribers about a year ago. The rate of lost subscribers is actually accelerating fairly rapidly in recent months.
- Also, every time I post a dispatch, I instantly get notices from Substack telling me that X numbers of subscribers have “disabled my emails.” Today’s notice told me that 16 subscribers have done this in the past three days, 10 in the last 24 hours.
- Dan, who subscribes to my Substack, tells me all of my recent articles have gone to his "Spam" folder.
Take-away: Being a “contrarian” Substack author ain’t for sissies. “Mama, don’t let your babies grow up to be skeptical freelance journalists.”
Well Bill, at least you have way more Paid subs than me even though I drove by slightly ahead of you in overall count. Thanks again for your excellent research and this super important discussion!
I have no difficulty believing Substack is suppressing conservative contact. I kind of expected that to happen. However another thing to consider is this. If a Substack is heavy on the COVID truth stuff I just don’t engage anymore. Why? Because I already know it’s a military bioweapon. I know the whole thing was a huge experiment orchestrated by the global powers that shouldn’t be. I know about spike protein, shedding, turbo cancers, explosive excess death numbers, calamari blood clots, COVID protocols in nursing homes put in place that killed thousands. Yet the horror is still happening. No one is being brought to justice. No huge protests are being organized against Big Pharma. No solutions. Yes people are waking up but? So maybe numbers are also going down because we who already know don’t need to hear it over and over again and those who don’t know yet just don’t want to.
I keep writing that we need a "thermo-nuclear truth bomb" to actually detonate. That would produce major change imo. (The desired change is a massive purge of so-called "leaders" plus many prosecutions and civil lawsuits).
The "calamari clots" might be the most powerful and compelling story-line that could produce an instant sea change in public opinion. (But those pictures and stories still must "go viral." Somehow, we've got to get around the "gatekeepers of the news."
Thank you Bill and Dan, I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast, and many of those who I connect with will agree that SS is already controlled.
We are seeing it amongst the so called 'freedom groups' and big Alt. media names who will not risk their revenue for posting 'too truthful' information.
They have to stay 'marginally safe'.
Their game has been rumbled and they have been called out, but it won’t stop their revenue streams, just the truth reaching new listeners.
He has painstakingly curated the eye witness testimony of the two Government Inquiries in Scotland and UK, and despite the harrowing evidence, and curated statements which make it an easy read, an easy way to review, complete with video shorts, the big Alt names have refused to share it.
I don’t object to journalists making revenue if that is their form of employment for bill paying, but for many others, the pandemic seems a tasteless excuse from which to profit, for those selling their wares down the Freedom Aisle.
Here is one post that well and truly rams home the harms done,
and IMHO should be the nuclear bomb to wake up the masses, yet all we see is deflated numbers, and it goes back to algorithms and the 77th Brigade, who have been on here for some time, now.
The insights you shared about SS bringing on the big guns from MSM made sense. All of a sudden I was inwardly guided to close down my SS, because of infiltration by 77th Brigade, etc.
It is all controlled, and in my view, we are just being corralled into a different holding pen to study and control, before sending us into the same dark trap, just via a different gate.
I refuse to budge or be pushed anywhere and will keep going for as long as I can.
I am a tiny voice, not an intellectual, nor an academic, and only recently restarted my posting on here, so if one person reads my posts, I feel 'small fry' grateful!!
Interesting thought that, as my radar got closer to the target, those pesky 77th brigades appeared all over my posts.
It was refreshing to hear you both talking, and to realise that there may be some good people in journalism after all.
I have developed such distrust, I’m afraid it is hard to not be sceptical about anyone these days or their motives. I actually felt a genuine warmth from both of you. Thank you for the great discussion. It will add to the melting pot of the SS mystery that is currently causing many to scratch their heads.
Agree to your point of the purge however when ALL, or very nearly all of the kings men globally are purge worthy what are the surfs to do? I think band together, know your neighbor, barter and use cash while you can, stay out of THEIR system now as much as possible but whatever you do don’t think you are going to do it alone. We that know will be needed and we need each other!! See you on the other side.
Dan, thanks for interviewing me and for bringing greater awareness to these conspicuous trend changes. I enjoyed our dive down into this “Rabbit Hole.” (I wonder how many subscribers we’ll both now lose!)
Bill, I can't remember if I had told you this on air, but ALL of your Substack emails that come to me immediately make it into my spam folder. Technically, I wonder how the heck this is happening.

The same could happen with Substack channels.
I usually unsubscribe if someone is using the F-word and cursing too much.
I just found Substack a few months ago and have been enjoying the platform as a reader/subscriber/commentor.
I don't feel comfortable commenting on youtube anymore.
I knew the non-censored Substack couldn't last forever. We just have to wait and see what happens.
Every media thingy eventually is captured by the leftists. Substack will not escape.

"I also think our days are numbered on this platform"
Yep. Mine DEFINITELY are!

This has been obvious for some time.

Yep, all good points. I have unsubscribed to a lot of substack authors who just keep talking about the same things over and over.
I have been on a very public demonetising protest journey since July and my free subs keep steadily climbing.
You make a VERY valid point!

Dan, Thank you, It was great interview and I found it highly informative and enjoyable. I have shared your links. Might top up any lost subscribers!
Not being a writer I use Substack Notes almost exclusively. I’d get 20 to 30 “likes” but it has now dropped to virtually Zero over the last year.
Thanks for sharing this information.
